Farm To Table In Poughkeepsie

Gardening is a community pastime in Poughkeepsie and other parts of the Hudson Valley region. A non-profit like the Poughkeepsie Farm Project (PFP) assists locals with reaching their gardening potential. The PFP also helps the community stay informed through workshops and provides a place to purchase plants or fresh produce.

There are also plenty of volunteer opportunities even if you have never planted a seed or have a green thumb! Part of the Poughkeepsie Farm Project's mission is to increase access to land, the farm and the herbal garden. Garden Educator Larissa Pitcher-Alvarado took a moment to chat with The Goodie Drop about gardening. Pitcher-Alvarado said, "Don't give up, I mean it! Folks want to plant things and if it doesn't work out they say, they don't have a green thumb. There is no such thing. Keep growing, keep trying, use different soil, use a different plant, use a different seed but don't give up!"

The plant sale is an event that the PFP hosts from time to time. More than 200 hundred people stopped by the plant sale on May 7, 2022. During this particular plant sale, strawberry plants, tomato plants and herbal products from the herbal mediation garden were also available for purchase. Farmers and Chefs Food Truck also stopped by with truffle fries.
